Managing a pharmacy can be harder than it sounds, but there are many pharmacy management systems that managers can use to make everything much easier. These systems are made to streamline tasks and help fill prescriptions while giving pharmacists more time to speak with customers. Here are the main features that you should consider when buying pharmacy computer systems.

1: Smooth Workflow:
The pharmacy management systems should be able to smooth the pharmacy’s workflow. For example, it should easily work with third-party payment systems, allow pharmacists to consult patients rather than busily prepare prescriptions and integrate with DUR services. If the management system can’t make the workflow easier, than it is a waste to use it. The system is supposed to give workers more time to help customers. It shouldn’t be a hassle that just makes them work harder.

2: Centralized Data:
Every patient has a lot of data. You have to know the patient’s basic information, medical history, prescriptions, allergies and current purchases. It’s impossible for pharmacists ...
... to remember all of this, but a computer can easily accommodate this need. Not only that, but the best pharmacy management systems allow pharmacists from other stores to see the same information without doing any extra work. This allows every store to collect and implement data from customers so that everything is streamlined.

4: Pharmacy Automation:
Many management systems can integrate with prescription dispensing system hardware and software. A dispensing system typically holds between 50 to 200 prescriptions, and the machine will fill prescriptions and create labels without any manual work from the pharmacists. Most of these systems can do about 50 percent or more of the repetitive work. This allows pharmacists to do the most important parts, and it ensures that human error does not interfere with someone getting the right medication.

5: Automatic Inventory System:
Another feature of great management systems is that they should automatically store and update your inventory. The system should be able to tell you exactly how many pills you have left. Some can even place orders when prescriptions start running low. While manual counting is still a good idea to ensure that no one is stealing, automating the inventory system will make it much easier to manage the pharmacy. This will also significantly reduce the likelihood of prescriptions running out because an order will be placed as soon as the inventory runs low.

There are dozens of great pharmacy management systems, but the right one will have a powerful combination of features that can automate most of the pharmacy processes while making it easier to manage the entire department or store. If a system doesn’t have all of these features, then it isn’t worth getting.
