Before we go into the cure let us get a basic understanding of hair. All animals grow hair, some of them are thick and shaggy, some sleek, some long haired and all have different hues. Also the quality of the hair itself will differ in thickness, density and body coverage but essentially it is the same.

The Human animal differs from most other animals in that most of the body hair is no longer present. This has necessitated the human to adapt his environment by needing covering in the form of clothing to protect him from the elements, which led him to the development of tools, weapons and the ability to build shelters and so on… This is an entire separate discussion and has no place here.

But besides being naked the human's hair continues to grow. Most other animals have a natural ability to grow thicker coats in winter which they shed when the weather gets warm again, but not the human. The hair on the human head grows steadily throughout the life of said human.

All animals, including humans secrete oily like sebum through from glands in the skin follicles and these feed the hair and give it a protective ...
... gleam. Which, in thick furred animals, provides protection from the elements. When an animal is out of condition these glands often stop working and its appearance falls off. This is obvious to anyone who has pets as it is perfectly presented by domestic cats and dogs.

Well it is the same with human hair. In a healthy state the hair has a natural sheen and looks sleek. But humans wash much of this away. We are obsessive about cleanliness and many will wash their hair with soaps and shampoos daily. Anyone used to washing daily will know that if one skips a day or 2 the hair becomes greasy. This is because by the constant washing we have stimulated the glands to increase the secretion of sebum which coats the hair on the head. Furthermore ladies in particular use hair dryers, hot curling tongs and other heat devices to encourage some fashionable styling.

Not content with this, fashion tends to dictate that we alter our appearance, so we now have bleaches and dyes and highlights and other colorings all of which fight against the natural ability of the hair to feed itself and the ends die off and start splitting. This is exactly what we don't want as Hair with Split Ends becomes dull, lifeless and unmanageable.

A radical solution, often adopted, is to go and cut it off which is drastic and possible self defeating as the poor condition will persist. What you really want is to Repair Damaged Hair.
