5 Steps To Be A Professional Arabic Interpreter!
Becoming a Professional Arabic Interpreter or Translator is more about building or switching mind-sets. 95% of the people who apply for the post of translators or Interpreters are not certified professional Arabic Translators and this is where I have to stop and mention precisely that being a Bi-lingual or able to speak, read or write does not provide you the edge of becoming a professional Arabic Linguist. Fluency in any language means having superior command to a level of native speaker, reader or writer. Similar to any other profession, this also requires proper education, experience and training to be known as a professional language interpreter or translator. There is definite no path to success but there are a few guidelines that could help you be what it needs to be. To make it very clear and to help those out who are willing to become professional interpreter, I have compiled all 5 steps in chronological order.
STEP 1: Be a Certified Interpreter:
The first step to become a professional language translator ...
... is to have some sort of certifications or accreditations. Being certified means, you have proofs to show that you are professionally trained to opt for the desired position. If you are certified from a well-reputed university or a government issued programs, you’ll automatically be added to the professional directories where clients often refer to get their highly paid jobs done. There are universities that are offering evening courses, crash courses and professional translation courses to promote this field as a formal platform for translators.
STEP 2: Rate Yourself:
It is very important to get yourself tested from time to time. This is possible through different language proficiency test. Having certified or undertaking proficiency test cannot guarantee you success but these are some of the ways to build yourself as a professional language translator.
STEP 3: Work Professionally:
The third is to achieve professional experience. This could be done by either freelance jobs or in-house jobs. Your main aim is to gain experience over professional translating projects. Internship or beginning with a part time job is a good way to build your order. The main idea is to build an outclass translation or writing profile, associating good names as your clients. This is one of the ways to maintain good samples of your work to win potential clients later in the field.
STEP 4: Expose It:
Once you meet the good level of proficiency, and you have enough experience, start to expose and market your professional profile on different translation online forums, law agencies, language agencies, government agencies where they definitely need translators and interpreters for their official work. Set your rates and stick to it. You can work as an employee, part timer or a freelancer but it is very important to show your potential clients that you are knee deep in your relevant field.
STEP 5: Keeping Growing:
As you spend your time in this field, you’ll come to learn more about your skills, edge and specialty You can start considering that there are other areas that you can look forward to grow your expertise. Staying well connected with the growing market is a positive sign but keeping on analyzing yourself that do you cope up with the recent market trends? No matter, how experienced, skilled or foresighted you are, remembering that there is always a room to improve and grow. Therefore, it is best to keep up with the upcoming market terms and trends.
The above mentioned points is to provide a useful guide for those, willing to enter this highly paid and reputed industry.
