Euro Backpacker

If you want to get away for the summer before you go back to another year of lectures, but don't have enough spare cash to get all the way to Asia or South America, then why not go backpacking around Europe?
Getting there is remarkably cheap. You can fly with a low-cost carrier then travel by bus or train throughout the continent. Alternatively, if you're in a group, consider ‘roadtripping'. You can get across to France cheaply on the ferry or using the Eurotunnel then you are free to roam from hostel to campsite.
Here are a few things you can try on your European adventure.
Near Bordeaux on the French border with Spain you'll find Hossegor, the perfect location for a week-long surfing break. The scenery is amazing the area has some of the best surf beaches in Europe. There are plenty of hostels and campsites in the area too and too many surf schools to count on your fingers.
For another board sport that is more commonly enjoyed in winter, head to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier in Austria for some summer snowboarding. At 3000 metres above sea level you'll find a tip-top board park where local rippers ...
... hit the kickers and rails pretty much all year round. Just beware of the panda-eyed goggle tan that afflicts all summer snowboarders.
Head north to the land of the Vikings for midsummer, the longest day of the year. In Sweden midsummer is a big deal and is a national holiday. Being so far north, the night is pretty short and so the parties are even longer. A good place to go is Gotland, and island off the east coast which throws some of the best parties in the country.
The small town of Buñol near Valencia in Spain every year, on the last Wednesday of August hosts La Tomatina. This is a giant tomato fight that takes over the town. Thousands of people cram the streets and pummel each other with tomatoes then dance the night away at a massive, town-wide fiesta.
As a backpacker you are probably going to be doing more than just your run of the mill sunbathing activities and you can't just rely on your European Health Card to get you out of difficulty if you have an accident. Get yourself the proper insurance for your level of activity.
sure everything is covered on your trip. Backpackers travel insurance should always be taken out before travelling.
