Is It Worth The Time And Effort To Market On Twitter?
Not too long ago, it was tough to dismiss the buzz online about Twitter marketing tools. It was considered that you could use Twitter as an effective method to grow a list of likely purchasers for your products or services. But the question is, were any of those software packages that were sold, actually doing you any good? Today, we will discuss Twitter marketing and if it is even worth it for you to get into it.
Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help folks build a big Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to check out. I signed up for programs that promised to get me followers on Twitter and purchased software tools to help advertise my products. By the time I was done, I'd paid for something like eight programs to carry out some of the grunt work involved in Twitter marketing.
One of these software tools was an automatic 'people follower' on Twitter with the objective that some of those people would follow me back. Next there was the program that would un-follow individuals who were not following me. This would let me follow various people again to get them to follow me. Along ...
... with some other programs that are not actually worth mentioning, I bought a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog. And when I began using all of these tools the results seemed to be amazing because they all did just what they said they would do. Nevertheless, my excitement was quickly squashed when I realized that I wasn't pulling in any money. Each day I would post approximately ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be shown on Twitter as well. Then I found a way to have all the blog entries done for me automatically, hoping that the more posts I would have the more people who would see them.
So permit me to reveal to you my results. In three years, I was able to build a Twitter following of approximately 10,000 individuals. And while you may think that is great, wait 'til you hear the whole story. Also in the past three years I have had over 15,000 of my blog posts that were advertising affiliate products added to my Twitter account. And that was the only campaigning that I did for that blog, I opted not to even ping the posts to see precisely what Twitter could do for me. Well, you can't say that 3 years isn't long enough to get decent results but using Twitter I just got 2 - 4 visitors each day to my blog. My affiliate earnings from 2 transactions was $47 and to that you can add $8.65 Adsense revenue - very dismal all around!
In short, having nearly 10,000 followers on Twitter using all these programs will not give you the results you want. As a matter of fact, in the last 3 years I have not even generated good money from that blog to pay for the Twitter programs that I had bought. There could be other effective means to promote on Twitter, but from my experience, using automatic software tools is not one of them.
