On Frugality In The Kitchen
We've all experienced that sense of confusion when every payday our money just magically disappears. Sometimes, even if you've stripped the bills you pay down to the basics, it just isn't enough. You then start looking for other areas of your household where you can save a little bit of cash and the one of the first things that gets noticed is the kitchen.
Whether you want to start a life of frugality or you just want to be frugal on certain aspects of your life, the kitchen is almost always the best place to start. By being frugal in the kitchen, you tend to eat healthier meals, pack your own lunch to work so you don't have to spend money in fastfood joints, and you save money that you can use for something else.
One thing you have to remember about saving money through the kitchen is that you will need to start not eating outside. The frequency of eating out will depend entirely on how serious you want to take the life of frugality.
To start, you're going to learn how to cook. Sure, you may already know how to prepare simple dishes or fry some chicken breasts, but unless you'll want ...
... to be eating the same meals over and over every day you'll want to spice things up a little bit. You don't have to let go of foods you love. You can simply look online for various recipes and methods to cook them in various ways. If one of the reasons you're going for a frugal kitchen is to start eating healthy, you may notice that there are going to be more vegetables in those recipes.
This is the second point: vegetables. If you want to save on foods you eat, try including more vegetables in your meals. For instance, if you like having one portion of meat, you can start by having a half portion of meat and the other half is your veggies. When you start this process, you may feel a little short on meal satisfaction. You'll also find yourself hungry earlier than usual. If this is the case, then you can snack on some fruits. It takes a little while to get used to but you'll grow to love it especially when you start seeing how much weight you lost and the other health benefits you'll get from eating more vegetables.
Finally, when exploring other food options you may want to go back to the foods that you vowed never to consume. Eggplant, broccoli, cauliflower, and the like are usually just ornamental pieces in a dish. If you don't like them, try putting them in your meals and see if the only reason you hated them when you were you was because you were simply too young to like them. If you still dislike the taste, then that's where your cooking skills will come in. For instance, if you have never liked tofu, you can mix it with meat, eggs, and bread crumbs to make burger patties out of them.
The bottom line is this: to be frugal in the kitchen, you'll need to learn how to cook. If you're having trouble, you can always watch how they're prepared. Go to FoodPlus.tv to watch some cooking videos online.
