Getting a bike is always a good idea regardless of whether it's a necessity or not. It is a good source of exercise, a good way to get some sunshine, and can help save money by biking instead of commuting. As there are a lot of types of bicycles, it is often confusing when looking for the perfect bike for you. The same way people look to Kobe's shoes or Tiger Woods' clubs for their respective apparels, famous cyclists are looked in to for inspiration for choosing a bike.

Ask anyone to name a famous cyclist and the first answer is usually going to be Lance Armstrong. Of course, there are other great ones, such as Mario Cipollini and Eddy Merckx. Cadel Evans is another cyclist; the first Australian to win the Tour de France. This isn't to say that there aren't any popular cyclists that are women. There's Martina Jancikova, Emily Batty, Rochelle Gilmore, and Jenny Fletcher, to name a few. Even so, the fact that male cyclists are more popular often leaves women with a little more work in finding a bike for them.

The first thing to understand about bikes is that there are so many of them. To spend the least time in ...
... choosing one for the ladies, find those that are labelled as designed specifically for women. Still, these come in various categories that you'll need to choose from. There are three main ones: road bikes, mountain bikes, and comfort bikes. There are others, but are simply call hybrid bikes.

Road bikes are meant for paved roads. They are best used in urban areas for commuting and recreational purposes with a little exercise in mind. Road bikes can also withstand the occasional off-roading, although not as much as mountain bikes. Handlebars are often at the same height as the bike seat.

Mountain bikes are designed for off-roading and are the bikes of choice if you plan to take your bikes for regular nature trips. Since the tires are not meant for asphalt, you'll need to change them if you decide to use them in the city. Handlebars and seat level are the same, although handlebars at a lower height than the set are also common.

Comfort bikes are created more for the purpose of leisure and recreation. More often than not, they are fixed gear bikes, or fixies. Comfort bikes, as the name implies, puts more emphasis on comfort. The seats are usually at a lower height than the handlebars.

Once you've chosen a bike type, it's time to look at the specs to make sure the fit is right. Handlebars are usually designed for men, which may be a little too wide for women. Check the handlebar width to see if you would be comfortable with it. Choose the handlebar according to your shoulder width.

You should also check the distance between the handlebar and the bike seat and making sure you can reach the handlebar comfortable while sitting on the seat. As for the bike's height, it's a matter of personal preference and bike type. Some women like to be able to sit on the bike seat and balancing the bike with their feet when stationary. Others like taller bikes where they have to straddle the bike frame.

Choosing women's bikes all comes down to personal preference, what you want to use them for, and what terrain you'll be using them on. You can visit chappelli.com.au to find Sydney bikes.
