When it comes to carry something, we used to choose from cello bags or polyethylene bags for ultimate comfort and carrying capacity. No matter what you actually use but the major crux is that people don’t know the difference between them. It is very much common among people referring to cellophane as polyethylene, and vice versa. I am trying to list out the major difference between these two elements so that you can always make a better choice over others.

Cellophane

Cellophane is typically a transparent grease-resistant and moisture-resistant film produced from viscose. First used by a Swiss textile engineer in 1911, it went to manufacturing on a large scale. In fact, it became the first moisture-resistant and flexible packaging material in the world. However, after the invention of polyethylene in the 1950s, cellophane started to be replaced by this new material.

Though these bags can be used to store various things but mostly they are used for foods (meats, cheeses, candy, cookies, etc.), as well as for small gifts and cards (greeting cards, florist cards). Cello packs are often used to wrap ...
... gifts for parties and holidays (birthday, wedding, Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, etc.). They come as both transparent as well as coloured sheets. They can be flat or gusseted, along with square or cone-shaped. In today’s times, you can even find biodegradable cello packaging.

Polyethylene

It is typically made through the polymerization process of ethylene. Due to many reasons, this has become the most sought after packaging material in the world. Alike cellophane, this material also come in transparent and coloured shades. The best thing is that this material is much more durable and resistant to elements compared to its counterpart. It was invented by a German in 1899, but laid unnoticed till 1933. By the end of 1950s, it rapidly became the most demanding material for packaging and started to replace the lesser durable cello bags.

Polyethylene can be classified into 3 types: HDPE (High Density Polythene), MDPE (Medium Density Polythene), and LDPE (Low Density Polythene). The HDPE is largely used for durable bags with regular or reinforced patch handles or loop handles. The LDPE is used for lightweight T-shirt bags. These are more capacious; besides, they are the most affordable type of packaging. Today, with the increasing demand of these bags, there are large numbers of polyester film manufacturers in the world producing high quality packaging films.

Polyplex Corporation Ltd. (Polyplex) is among the world's largest Polyethylene and polypropylene film manufacturers. Their polyester capabilities include both thin and thick PET film in a wide range of thickness and surface properties covering a spectrum of applications.
