Christmas And New Years In New York, An Unforgettable Experience
The city of New York is an incredible city to visit at any time of year, but at Christmas time, this awesome city is particularly magical. If you are wondering what to do as for as sightseeing in New York during Christmas, you need not worry, the entire city is lit up with Christmas feeling. In fact, the famous poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' by Clement Clarke Moore was inspired by a ride in downtown Manhattan in Christmas 1823. The Rockefeller Center Plaza is a must-see, and the huge Christmas tree has been there since 1931. The Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center Plaza has 30,000 lights, and is a beautiful sight to behold, particularly after dark when the lights bounce off the golden Prometheus statue - the perfect Christmas photo opportunity.
Santaland at Macy's is a gorgeously Cristmassy scene consisting of Christmas trees, toy trains, elves, and snow. It's also home to the Santa Claus that inspired the 1947 film "Miracle on 34th Street." Of course, Manhattan is the perfect place to go shopping and the many Christmas window displays are well worth seeing. The ...
... city is also famous for its Christmas holiday shows. St John the Divine's Winter Solstice is one of the most well loved, and Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular features dancing Santas and a line of leg kicking Rockettes.
Another must-do at Christmas in Manhattan is to go ice skating. The ice skating rink at the Rockerfeller Center is the city's most iconic rink. For safety reasons just 150 people are allowed on the ice at any one time, so you should prepare for long queues, although it is well worth the wait. To avoid the crowds it is worth making a reservation for the first skate of the morning, which can be done at the Rink at Rockerfeller Center website. Manhattan's famous Central Park is another magical place at Christmas, especially if it is covered in a blanket of snow. Another fabulous ice rink is here, the Trump Wollman Rink. This outdoor rink does get quite crowded so it is difficult for experienced skaters to show off their tricks. However, the Christmas feeling cannot be beaten and the views of the skyscrapers make it a worthwhile activity that kids will love.
One of the best ways to enjoy Manhattan at Christmas is by joining one of the fantastic New York City Tours. By joining a tour you can be sure to see all of the major attractions that New York offers during the Christmas period. New York City Tours at Christmas are available at a very reasonable price and will be a fun way to spend a day, before you take in Manhattan's beautiful Christmas lights after dark.
