Sometimes it is worth being humorous at an interview. However, remember this is not a social avenue. Therefore, Dirty Jokes are not advisable here. Very often you will find that your interviewers won’t take it positively and that means no job for you. It is true that interviews are awkward sometimes. They can even be insulting at other times. Imagine an interviewer asking you a question like, ‘which is your greatest challenge or weakness?’ most of us will quickly be tempted in telling the interviewer, ‘I am a painstakingly incurable workaholic...worst of all I’m not planning on changing that any time soon’.
Cracking Short Jokes may come as a simple natural act. Unfortunately, chancing the same at times when you are most stressed is terribly the worst. Interviews turn out to be such terribly stressful moments. Imagine cracking a joke in front of a panel of interviewers or one interviewer who happens to wear a stone face from the very moment you step at the door into the interview room. The very first thing you need to do is to gain confidence. Imagine the interviewers as people faced with a never ending cue of interviewees. The unfortunate reality is that all these interviewee have the same goal-to impress them. This is drudgery. It is only natural that a change in the job pitch intensity as handled by the manager may serve as a break. Having a break is as good as having a rest. A few funny quotes here and there are therefore a good way of creating a light moment during the interview. Believe me or not this will definitely create a lasting and positive impression on your interviewer(s).
Don’t Use the Interview to Entertain Hiring.
In as much as humor has already been indicated to be good during interviews, there are limits. An interview should remain an interview. It must not be an entertainment moment. This in essence means that you should not go overboard with your humor. Gauge your audience well before engaging them in any jokes. Avoid offensively Dirty Jokes as much as possible. These may in fact not please your interviewers but act as a piss off to them. Don’t make them feel relieved the moment you step out of the door. You can notice from their tone that they are not so much into your jokes. Some will even want to cut short the interview simply to get rid of you. The truth of it all is to remain your simple self. Just talk as you have always done in your natural talk. Only this time you have to be aware of the fact that you are talking to professionals at a professional venue and not a club.
