There are a number of things that can cause health issues. Having a sore jaw on one side is usually because of a jaw condition called TMJ syndrome (Temperomandibular Joint Syndrome). TMJ has become a growing health care dilemma in our society. Millions of Americans are afflicted with this. This can be quite a nasty and frustrating condition if it isn't treated properly. Jaw is typically used for grasping and manipulating. The bones that make up the jaw, included in the facial structure, are important to allow for the basic functions of eating and communicating. TMJ allows the upper jaw to close on the lower jaw and is one of the most frequently used joints of the body. Getting a sore jaw on one side, means there are some ligaments, tendons or muscles that are not behaving properly or the bite is misaligned. Some examples of these include fractures, misalignment, arthritis and dental abscess.

It is very difficult to deal with the any kind of pain and the most difficult is to avoid pain in facial area particularly if it is severe, frequent and interferes with daily life. Jaw is the only part which we use very frequently ...
... in our daily life and pain in jaw can make everyday life much uncomfortable and difficult. Therefore, figuring out what causes the pain and learning how to treat the problem and cope with it should be the goal for those who suffer from this problem. For maintaining good health we should always be away from the bad habits. In maximum cases, the pain and discomfort associated with TMJ disorders can be alleviated with self-managed care or nonsurgical treatments. Gargling with hydrogen peroxide and salt water could be helpful and one should try this for better judgment if it helped or not. They're both antiseptics, and would have good effect.

There may be need to see more than one medical professional, such as a dentist, oral and maxillofacial surgeon, GP, or ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist for the treatment of pain in jaw. But sometime severe TMJ disorders may require surgical repair also. Putting any pressure on jaws while sleeping can be dangerous. Foods that are difficult to chew or require open wide mouth should be avoided such as apples, carrots, nuts, hard candy, bagels, hard rolls, meats like steak and chewy foods. An oral appliance can help align the teeth in a proper position that will reduce or minimize facial pain.
