The BS7799 certification is done by an accredited body which is usually a third party organizations which audits, assesses and then certifies the ISMS in an organization to be BS7799 or ISO27001 compliant. Some of the well known and recognized certifiers who are equipped to certify ad are duly accredited by the ISO to grant compliance certification against BS7799 or ISO27001 are the BSI, DNV, KEMA, Certification Europe, JACO IS, KPMG, SGS, SFS-Sertifiointi Oy, STQC, UIMCert GmbH,SAI Global Limited. An organization who wants to conduct a BS7799 audit and issue certificates of compliance needs to have them certified as auditors from the International Registrar of Certified Auditors after completing the necessary certification schemes for the ISMS auditors. The ISO provides the IEC Guide 62 which is a technical guide for the certifying bodies that operate the certifications schemes and it contains the general guidelines and requirements applicable to these certifying bodies.

The BS7799 is a product of the British Standards Institute and can be purchase in a stand alone version or as a part of the ISO 1779 toolkit being commercially sold.
