The business of wind energy is growing in leaps and bounds. The American Wind Energy Association, an industry trade group, recently released a report indicating a record growth in wind energy in 2008, with more than 8,000 megawatts (MW) of new generating capacity having been installed. This increase grew the nation's total wind power capacity by 50% and actually accounted for about 42% of all new power capacity added to the national grid last year.

Wind energy is on the rise and so is the need for personal wind turbine generators. What does this mean for you? Today is a great opportunity to be a distributor of these wind turbines, as you will be entering on the ground level and growing with the market.

Not long ago, wind turbines were used primarily by those who lived outside the range of local utility lines, or who wanted to live completely off the grid. Now, with people becoming more energy conscious for the sake of the environment and due to the reduction in the size and cost of wind turbines, more homeowners are installing these units for their homes and businesses.

According to the American Wind Energy ...
... Association, a nonprofit advocacy group in Washington, D.C., the number of wind turbines purchased has been growing steadily since 1990. Last year, about 7,000 small wind turbines - defined as those that have a capacity of up to 100 kilowatts, were purchased in the United States, according to the group, and expected sales may reach about 10,000.

These statistics also show that residential turbines, which account for half those sales, are typically 33 to 100 feet tall, with outputs of two to 10 kilowatts. And recently, the United States House of Representatives passed a bill that would help states provide grants and low-interest loans for residential turbines (as well as solar panels and geothermal heat pumps), and that would offer a 30 percent federal tax credit on turbine purchases, up to $4,000; the Senate is now considering a similar measure.

What can a 10-kilowatt turbine unit do for one household as well as the planet? In an area with an average wind speed of 12 miles per hour, this unit can lead to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to removing 1.3 cars from the road. For households, it can reduce energy costs dramatically. And for people living in states that offer net metering, whereupon the power company will purchase back extra power generated, sometimes one can see their electric meter actually spin backward.

Wind turbine generators work quite simply, they convert wind into electricity. Large-scale wind farms are typically connected to the local electric power transmission network, with smaller turbines being used to provide electricity to isolated locations. Electricity generated by a wind farm is normally fed into the national electric power transmission network. Individual turbines are interconnected with a medium voltage (usually 34.5 kV) power collection system and communications network.

Why is wind energy so popular? For one, there is more wind power available in the atmosphere than current world energy consumption. Second, wind power can deliver zero emissions. This is important, as there is a great need to reduce carbon emissions on the planet as well the fact there are current regulations on carbon emissions. Add to this that no other new power plants being built in the U.S. today generate zero-emissions electricity as affordably as wind power and you can see why it is a win-win situation. Wind power is also readily available unlike other forms of energy that have to be mined or created. It also does not require any fuel for operation of it.

Many feel the electric industry is at a critical juncture with both global warming challenges, rising costs, changing market structures and growing demand for electricity, and in this wind power has been the logical answer.

With the writing on the wall, the next concern will be addressing supply and demand. More and more American businesses are working toward providing this supply that in return has helped boost the economy. But more will also be required.

As more people become educated in the value wind turbine generators offer, the more they support the concept and want to be a part of it.

Yes the business of wind energy is only in its infant stages but there is no more perfect of a time to become involved with the business of wind energy and the distribution of wind turbine generators.
