How To Entice New Subscribers In Five Easy Steps

I've been studying how to execute this the right way since
the first day I created an online newsletter.
(You *do* have an online newsletter, right? If not, get one!
It helps build a relationship between you and your potential
customers, clients, and affiliates. A weekly newsletter can
shorten the sales cycle from 7 months to 7 weeks!
And your future customers and clients get a chance to mentally inter-
view you while they decide whether to buy, or sell your
products.)
There are the five points I came up with that are necessary
for a free gift to have in order to keep that new subscriber
happy, and increase the likelihood that they'll buy from you
one day.
I know that most of you are not in internet marketing- you
have businesses that started offline, with offices or store-
fronts you leave your house and go to each day. Don't worry,
if the freebie you offer passes the test, this tip can help
you, too.
Here are the 5 criteria your freebie has to meet in order to
maximize subscribers:
1. It has ...
... to be relevant.
In other words, if you have a site about parenting, an ebook
about senior care is the wrong choice for a sign-up freebie.
2. It has to be immediately available.
It's okay, smart even, to make the item available after
confirmation of the email address, however, to new subscribers
your gift should be available no later than that. There's a trick
you can do in most autoresponders that will make the confirmation
link forward them to the download address.
3. It's got to have true value.
You can't just say something is worth $49.99 and expect peo-
ple to believe it. The age of hype is over. It has to actual-
ly have some worth that is inherently apparent. By that, I
mean it should give a tip, action item, specialized know-
ledge or function that the recipient can use to improve
their lives.
I like to put in tips that someone can go test for themselves
right away.
4. It has to be a tease.
While I like to give a complete tip that a person can go try
out as soon as they get it, it's also smart for this tip to
be one of a series. You may think that by giving away a piece
of free information, you're throwing away money.
And in a sense, you are.
But it's worth it to help the people who want to know more
about your business before you ask them for their money. And
by giving away one small piece of your thousands of tips, you
are proving your worth upfront.
This is something that is strangely, still not common in this
age of transparency.
5. It has to be original, or at least exclusive.
It doesn't matter if you hire someone to write a collection of
five articles based on your knowledge and turn it into an
ebook, or if you do an audio presentation, and let people
download it from your site.
You can even giveaway a freebie someone else created as long
as it's relevant, and you're the only one in your market
giving it away.
But it has to be one of the two, original or exclusive. Either
no one else has it and can give it away for free, or you are
the one who created it, even though others have license to
distribute it as well.
If your giveaway is original, even if your affiliates are
giving away the same thing, the fact that you made it
is what will draw an audience to you - you were the first.
Your only fall-back, in the case of giving away something
that is not original, say, a free electronic copy of Napoleon
Hill's Think and Grow Rich, is if you're the only one in your
industry with that particular giveaway.
Otherwise, what prevents someone who doesn't know you from
going to get that freebie elsewhere?
These five tips aren't just important for preventing an
unsubscribe request - they're more likely to help you get
more buyers on your list. If your freebie isn't relevant,
exclusive/original, valuable, immediate, and a preview of
more to come, you're probably going to get a bunch of
freebie seekers on your list.
The more people are intimately interested in your topic matter
and how you can help them, the more likely it is that they're
action-takers who are there to spend a reasonable amount of
money to solve their problems.
