Welcome to the third installment of this four-part article series on dental implants in Chicago. In our previous article post, we focused on the “All-On-4”, which is a sophisticated dental implant technique used to provide edentulous (not having a single, original adult tooth left) and near-edentulous patients with new, non-removable teeth. The wonderful thing about this technique for fixed oral rehabilitation is that it can almost always be done within a single day, with a single surgery and without the need for painful, time-consuming and expensive bone grafting. In this article, we shall now move on to look at the benefits of dental implants on the whole, whether you’re having one tooth replaced or all of them.

The Benefits of Dental Implants: Nearly everyone’s a Candidate

If your jaw has fully developed and if you don’t present with any uncontrolled systemic diseases (such as Diabetes, osteoporosis or Rheumatoid arthritis) or conditions that might make surgery too risky (such as blood clotting disorders, rare bone diseases and respiratory or cardiovascular disease), then in all likelihood, you are ...
... a candidate for dental implants.

Additionally, with the introduction of new implant teeth protocols to the Chicago market, even patients who have been told that they are not candidates for implants in the past can have a chance at having beautiful, non-removable teeth again! The “All-On-4”, as was discussed in Part 2 of this four-part series, even caters to patients who have lost a substantial amount of bone volume in the jaw as a consequence of having lived without natural teeth and with removable dentures for too long.

So, even if your dentist told you that you aren’t a candidate for implants, seek a second opinion from a skilled and experienced dental implants specialist in Chicago.

The Benefits of Dental Implants: They Function Like Natural Teeth

Dental implants are the only teeth replacement technology that actually functions like natural teeth. First and foremost, they replace the root of the tooth as well as the crown, which is what conventional technologies, such as traditional bridges and removable dentures, fail to do. By replacing the root, dental implants are able to support a much stronger bite force, which means Chicago residents can eat more of their favorite foods, including corn on the cob and delicious steak.

New Implant Teeth in Chicago: Great for Jawbone Health

“Bone, just like muscle tissue, needs to be exercised or stimulated in order to remain healthy,” explains a dental implants specialist in Chicago. “The roots of your teeth are responsible for stimulating the jawbone and they do this by transmitting the eating forces into the hard tissue encasing them. The forces associated with grinding, biting and chewing therefore serve to keep the jawbone strong and healthy. When this stimulation is lost, however, the bone in the jaw atrophies and wastes away. This results in a drop in bone level and the shrinkage (visible in one’s facial aesthetics) we tend to associate with elderly denture-wearers.”

The dental implants specialist in Chicago goes on to explain: “Because dental implants replace the roots of the teeth, they also help to keep the jawbone healthy and prevent the loss of bone volume that causes premature aging and deterioration in bite strength. This is why we always recommend implants over traditional teeth replacement approaches, which only replace the crowns and not the roots.”

And They Feel Natural, Too

Teeth that are rooted in the jaw also feel far more natural and comfortable, which are big pluses for Chicago residents in need of new teeth!

Stay Tuned for Part 4

Stay tuned for the final installment of this four-part article series on getting new implant teeth in Chicago. In Part 4, we’ll be addressing two of your major concerns about getting dental implants placed: costs and pain.
