Nicolas Ivanoff, a chiropodist in EC2, and proprietor of Feet by Pody explains in this feature how he performs nail surgery.
"Performing nail surgery is an integral part of my work as a chiropodist in EC2, and this surgery is necessary in many cases for different reasons" Nicolas says from his practice as a chiropodist in EC2.
"This can be because the nails are ingrown, involuted, infected, deformed, or have a fungal infection" Nicolas continues. "As a chiropodist in EC2 these are all conditions which I see on a regular basis."

... nail. It is often possible to remove only the side of the nail that is causing problems to ensure, as much as possible, a satisfactory aesthetic appearance to the nail" Nicolas explains.
"This is something that is discussed and agreed with the patient before the procedure starts. As a chiropodist in EC2 I can assure my patients that the techniques I use, using local anaesthetic, make the procedure as painless as possible. Most of my patients report no or only slight discomfort during or post-surgery" Nicolas says.
Nicolas explains "in my practice as a chiropodist in EC2, there are three stages to the operation. The patient is given an injection of local anaesthetic, which will make the toe numb. Once the toe is numb, all or part of the nail will be removed and we will use a chemical to destroy the exposed nail bed."
"This normally ensures that the nail will not grow back again. A dressing will then be applied to the toe and the patient will be able to walk normally, although they are advised not to drive whilst the toe is numb."
Nicolas explains, as a qualified chiropodist in EC2, what the follow-up involves.
"The patient will normally have to attend the clinic to have the toe dressed within a few days of the operation being carried out. The dressing will require changing on a daily basis until healing is complete. This level of aftercare is something I see an important in my role as a chiropodist in EC2."
"The treatment is available to all patients, subject to my assessment as a chiropodist in EC2, to ensure there are no medical or surgical reason why such procedure should not be carried out."
