This is one of those projests that you try to avoid, but avoiding it could be deadly for you or family members. In my opinion all chimney should have a stainless steel chimney liner in it!
For a minimal amount of money and about 2hrs of elbow grease you can rest easy next time you heat your home and put the family asleep at night, that you're going to wake up the next morning and not end up being one of the many thousands of casualties that annually fall victim to this deadly tragedy:

An estimated 18,300 reported house fires involving chimneys using solid fuels equipment resulted in nearly $48 million in property damage.
