Chimney Liners
This is one of those projests that you try to avoid, but avoiding it could be deadly for you or family members. In my opinion all chimney should have a stainless steel chimney liner in it!
For a minimal amount of money and about 2hrs of elbow grease you can rest easy next time you heat your home and put the family asleep at night, that you're going to wake up the next morning and not end up being one of the many thousands of casualties that annually fall victim to this deadly tragedy:
(THE HOUSE FIRE OR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING)
Chimney fires happen when creosote builds up in the flue and ignites. These fires can build up heat in access of 2000 degrees just inches away from your living areas. Deadly gases and sparks can find their way through the slightest cracks in your existing flue and quickly turn a chimney fire into a raging house fire.
An estimated 18,300 reported house fires involving chimneys using solid fuels equipment resulted in nearly $48 million in property damage.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas created when burning gas, oil and solid fuels in open fireplaces ...
... and heating systems and can be deadly. A deteriorating flue surface poses a real threat of carbon monoxide poisoning because these gases can seep through the slightest crack.

Don't have a chimney try Duratech
DuraTech sets the standard in quality and performance for chimney systems.
ThermalTech blanket insulation emliminates hot spots common with loose-fill type insulations -- no shifting, settling, or voids. In the event of a creosote fire, this compressible blanket insulation permits the chimney liner to expand outward. This free-floating liner also expands lengthwise, eliminating buckling and loss of structural integrity associated with some solid-pack type chimneys.
DuraTech uses easy twist-lock connections and is available with stainless or galvanized outer wall. If your project calls for economy, use galvalume DuraTech where it won't be exposed to weather. The inner liner is 430-alloy stainless steel. All out diameters are 2 inches larger than the inner diameters.
DuraTech Chimneys are tested and listed to the UL 103HT standard for use with wood, oil, coal, and gas applications in 5 inch to 8 inch diameters; and the UL 103 standard in 10 inch and 12 inch diameters. DuraTech Chimneys carrie a limited lifetime warranty.
