The Best Smartphones Of 2008

2008 was a terrific year for smartphones. Both the number available, and the quality, increased dramatically. Smartphones, for those who do no know, are like a pocket computer, a phone with wide-ranging capabilities that allows access to internet and email. The Blackberry and iPhone are probably the most well known brands, but as we will see, there are several other brands out there who can give them a run for their money.
Nokia E71 The thinnest smartphone on the market, this device is a must for the design-conscious. In a sleek silver casing you get a one-piece smartphone with surprisingly roomy QWERTY keyboard. All the features you want are here including camera, 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities.
Not only is this smartphone good to look at, it also has an ease of use that puts others to shame. The operating system with the E71 is the Symbian S60, so you know you are getting a powerful piece of equipment too.
HTC Touch Pro With its heavy black features this phone looks like a serious piece of macho technology. The HTC touch interface is a breeze to use, very touch-sensitive, and both pictures and ...
... text look clear and bright on screen. While the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS allows for endless customisation possibilities, and has the usual full exchange support too.
There are those who prefer their one-piece models, but for those who do a lot of typing, a QWERTY keyboard is a must. This model has a sliding version and it is so comfortable to use you could use it all day.
T-Mobile G1 If ever a phone was designed for the future, it is the T-Mobile G1. Not so much in the physical design stakes, but with its state-of-the-art Android technology. This brand new operating system ahs caused a bit of a storm in smartphone circles. As it was built from scratch, internet capabilities could be considered from the very beginning, rather than as something that somehow had to be slotted in around all the other phone features.
Some may say it is a little too internet heavy, but we were blown away by its superfast speeds and efficiency. Not a crash in sight, even when operating multiple applications simultaneously, we cannot wait to see where the future of Android systems will take us.
Blackberry Bold The Blackberry Bold was launched after much anticipation, and it was well worth the wait. A thoughtfully-designed improvement on previous Blackberry models, this unit is weighted and sized just right to tick all of the ergonomic smartphone boxes.
The design is classy and professional looking and the screen is the best we have seen. Even text looks fantastic and crisp. Packing in all of the usual Blackberry features and more, and increasing its power capabilities allowing you to multitask better than ever before, this is the without a doubt, the best Blackberry yet.
