The new Dodge Tigershark engine will replace its highly rated 4-cylinder World Engine family. The Dodge Tigershark engine is available with two displacements of 2.0 liter and 2.4 liter. The 2.4 liter Tigershark engine’s performance is enhanced by MultiAir 2 technology which leaves the engine’s valves open for longer intervals during the intake cycle for better exhaust/gas recirculation. This can increase low engine rpm torque by as much as 15 percent and improve fuel efficiency by as much as 7.5 percent.

The Tigershark engines feature a cast aluminum block with cast iron bore liners, ...
... forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods. A redesigned cast iron bearing beam contributes to noise reduction. The 2.4 liter Tigershark Engine with MultiAir 2 is the larger of the two engines and is rated at 184 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 171 lb.ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. Four valves per cylinder are arranged on the aluminum cylinder head with 36 mm intake valves to provide optimum performance and fuel efficiency. A tubular exhaus manifold is located at the engine compartment to further reduce noise entering the passenger compartment. Additional features included to reduce engine noise include an aluminum head cover, an aluminum front engine cover and an acoustically dampened intake manifold.

The 2.0 liter Tigershark engine is rated at 160 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 145 lb.ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. It has the same cast aluminum block with cast iron bore liners and forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods as the 2.4 liter. It is also provided with the same noise dampening features. Enhanced performance and fuel efficiency are provided by independent valve timing. In addition to being used in the Dodge Dart, the 2.0 liter Tiger Shark is used in the Dodge Caliber, 4X2 model Jeep Patriot and the 4X2 model Jeep Compass.

Dodge introduced a third engine along with the two Tigershark engines, the 1.4 liter MultiAir Turbo Engine. The 1.4 liter is rated at 160 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 184lb-ft of torque at 2,500 through 4,000 rpm. The 1.4 liter has a cast iron block and a forged steel crankshaft which is supported by five main journals. The connecting rods, also of forged steel, are constructed with a unique cross section to improve durability and reduce the chance of longitudinal and lateral bending. The 1.4 liter’s pistons are cast aluminum. The aluminum cylinder head also includes MultiAir technology. The engine’s power is boosted by a turbocharger that includes a single intercooler.

The new Dodge line of engines includes the Tigershark 16-valve 2.0-liter engine, a 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir Intercooled Turbo engine and a new Tigershark 16-valve 2.4-liter MultiAir 2 four-cylinder engine. These engines were designed to provide durability, maximum power and fuel efficiency for compact cars. All three engines are available in the new Dodge Dart. The Dodge Dart is the first sedan built in North America to include MultiAir 2 technology. Drivers can visit their nearest dealer for a test drive to experience the performance of the Tigershark engine lineup.
