We all know that lamp shades come in different shapes and sizes. They are made off all types of materials such as paper, fabric and glass. Costs can range from minimal to outrageous and uses vary greatly. Some shades direct light specifically to a certain spot and are great for reading, sewing, typing, or what have you. They tend to be large on one end and significantly smaller on the other end. These shades are dome shaped, A-line, bell shaped or fluted.

A drum lamp shade, as the name implies, is round and has a similar circumference at each end. They diffuse the light evenly and create a "glow" rather than directing light to a specific point in a room. Depending on the size of the lamp and the wattage of the bulb, this allows you to create a general mood in a room. For example, a small lamp with a drum lamp shade and a 15 watt bulb will foster calm relaxation. A big floor lamp with the same type of shade and a 75-100 watt bulb encourages exuberance, interaction, and a lively conversation or two. Somewhere in the middle ...
... of that spectrum, may allow you to create a soft, quiet mood conducive to movie watching with the family or even a bit of romance later in the evening. The choices are as broad as your imagination.

The even cylinder shape of this type of shade is also easy to decorate, re-create, and overhaul quickly and inexpensively with endless possibilities. If you buy lamp shade, then you can change the look of an entire room! Color, texture, design can turn a dull room into the focal point in your home. Use paint to change the color altogether or use stencils with paint to create a design of your choosing. Materials from paper and silk to tapestry will give depth and texture to the shade making it stand out in any room of your home.

Have the kids help decorate their own shade for their bedroom and it just may inspire them to clean it a bit more often. Make small cut outs on the bottom or top of the lamp shade in the guest room to make visitors feel special and welcome. Add fabric flowers or lace fringe to the shade in the den for a unique touch. Let your creativity run wild and the results may surprise you and yours. Between the mood altering possibilities and the blank canvas cylinder shape, a drum lamp shade is a versatile option for any and all the rooms of your home, garage, or office.
