Plastic is the cheapest raw material in the market which could be used for making number of other products. Molten plastic is converted into many shapes by a process called injection molding. As plastic is economical, it is used to produce range of products. The products have range of applications. They could be commonly used as toys to making plastic containers. The injection process is used to change or give the material the desired shape using pressure. That is why plastic injection molding is being used more and more these days.
The process involves feeding plastic as powder or liquid and into a barrel. After the molten material is poured into the hopper, it is heated up to specific temperatures. At this time, it is mixed and pressurized through a nozzle type tool and on to the mould cavity. After this, the process involves cooling. The process progresses by cooling and acquires the shape of the mold. At this point a plunger is used to force the material through it.

As for the mould, it is made up of steel or aluminum. The various parts are formed using plastic injection. The size and type of the mould could ...
... vary hugely. It could range from small components to vehicle bodies. The whole process involves converting the molten material into solid shape. The molten state is used to give it the desired shape. On cooling, the molten material solidifies and the desired structure is created. It is not a very difficult procedure but performed by makers everywhere. It is an expensive process and that is why it is used only for industrial purposes.

As it is a costly procedure, it is useful for mass production. The method is useful only for production on large scale. So, it is all about 'converting' or shaping the liquid or molten state matter or raw material into a particular shape. For the purpose of giving shape to the 'liquid', pressures is applied. Basically, a mould is hollow and in the shape of the item to be manufactured. It is not that only plastic is used for the purpose. Glass and rubber in liquefied form are used to create various products.

So it is all about using raw material in certain conditions and applying appropriate pressure and at the required place and creating solid parts which is formed when the liquid is cooled and hardened. It has tremendous advantages as absolutely identical products could be produced. There is one time investment in creating the mould. The most important factor is when it involves complex geometry and when it is done any product type, size and models could be produced with ease.

About the author: The author is an expert in plastic injection moulding and the related processes. Here he explains the one time investment in the 'master' model and once it is prepared, production of the items is easy.
