Travellers desire deeply to explore this hard-to-visit land of beauty and culture. Hard core trekkers, history aficionados, adrenaline junkies and dedicated Buddhists want to tour LehLadakh and conquer this challenging destination.

In spite of natural beauty, lakes and snowy surroundings, Leh and Ladakh are no destinations for honeymoon packages. Yet, love birds, passionate about the adventure or history travel, visit this rugged yet majestic, isolated yet hospitable “Moonland”. The soothing Buddhist culture in this hilly region is very similar to their delicious local cuisine is such unpopulated region.

There are several Buddhist monasteries, which are locally known as Gompas, in Ladakh. However, there are more than few that have religious and cultural significance. Alchi monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in the region. Dikshit Gompa or Dikshit Monastery in Nubra Valley was founded by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, in the 14th century. Adventure sports in the region are mountain biking, white river rafting, mountain climbing, trekking and camping. Most popular activities are trekking on one of the several challenging trekking routes, river rafting and mountaineering. There is a well-established infrastructure for those interested in adventure sports.

The relatively easiest trek routes are established in the Zanskar. On theother hand, there are many trek routes with several turbulences. For e.g.: Hermis-Markha Padum trek. However, interested trekkers should not only be physically fit but also willing to face the extremely low temperatures and their consequences.

The best stretch for well-guided white river rafting is on Indus River, locally known as the Sindhu River, is from Spituk to Saspol. The stretch up to Karu is easy and perfect for first timers and amateurs. However, if you are looking for a challenging river rafting route, then you should consider narrow valley in Zanskar or river stretch between Padum and Nimo.

This thrilling yet soothing travel destination offers several holiday packages for adventure, pilgrimage and historical travellers. True extremes and weather challenges of Ladakh may not appeal to everyone. Yet, it doesn’t stop passionate travellers from exploring this destination either.

However, isolated from rest of Jammu and Kashmir, this region is relatively politically stable and non-violent. Domestic and international travellers are advised to consider the weather and local news before booking Leh Ladakh trip.
