Twitter releases more than 500,000 social job announcements each month, which just goes to say how Twitter is becoming an integral part of the social recruiting strategy for companies. Job postings on Twitter are also extremely varied in nature with a good mix of IT, sales, medical, dental, logistics as well as other areas.

Twitter’s increasing popularity as a recruiting channel can be attributed to the fact that traditional recruiting channels prove to be ineffective in sourcing and engaging passive candidates. There is a high likelihood of these passive candidates being active on Twitter providing employers an opportunity to engage with them from a recruiting point of view. There can be no better brand ambassador for your company than a happy employee who is looking for a co-worker. Employees can also tweet to communicate interesting and relevant office updates like bagging a new project or a prestigious award or even fun events like company outings etc. This is also an excellent way to attract employee referrals using twitter. The aim is to showcase your organizations’ unique culture to prospective candidates through tweeting company events and milestones. Re- tweeting an employee’s tweetshelps to make the message more genuine and informal as opposed to a tweet originating from a company account.

Use Hashtags Extensively


Apply commonly searched relevant hash tags to your tweets to ensure thatthe largest possible audience reads it. The use of hashtags also help to make the tweet specific to a particular group of audience. For instance, attaching #java ensures that people working in or interested in knowing about job movements in java will be able to find your tweet easily and quickly. Likewise, employers can use hashtags to search and filter out people who are active in a particular domain to engage with them for recruiting.

Use engaging content like videos etc to attract and engage audience


Using videos in tweets to catch the attention of potential candidates is fast becoming popular as videos help to create a pull factor with prospective candidates, by providing a visual reinforcement of your office and the employees at work.

Use Tweets to build personal connections with qualified prospective candidates

It is effective to tweet on a one-on-one basis with candidates that you would eventually like to hire, to build a trusted personal connection with them.

Ultimately, how successfully you are able to hire through Twitter depends entirely on how effectively you are able to build an engaging online presence on Twitter. Even if you do not end up hiring very many from Twitter, it still remains a great medium to build your employer brand online by showcasing all that your company has to offer to new people.
