Volvo Plans For Four-cylinder Engines With Turbochargers

Volvo is reported to have big plans for the future of their cars. They have announced that they are starting a new chapter in engine design. All of the Volvos made for the U.S. market will come with four-cylinder engines. These new models are part of the Swedish "Drive-E" program which relies on better efficiency. Future Volvo engines are designed to reduce the carbon spew while keeping the miles-per-gallon fuel efficiency in the 30s. Drive-E program includes a D4 Diesel, T5 Petrol and T6 Petrol engine.
The Drive-E four-cylinders will run on gasoline or diesel fuel with the possibility of creating a fuel/electric hybrid engines as well. The future Volvo engines are designed in a way that makes it easy to add on superchargers and turbochargers in order to create better horsepower and torque while keeping the emissions and fuel consumption low. These new Drive-E engines are Volvo's plan to replace the V8 engines completely.
The first cars with built in Drive-E engines are coming to the U.S. market by the beginning of next year. It is reported that the first car with the future Volvo engine will ...
... be the V60 station wagon, the S60 sedan and the XC60 SUV. These vehicles are coming out in January and will be followed by the XC70 SUV and S80 sedan later in the year. Vehicles equipped with this new engine will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new engines won't lose the horsepower but will lower the acceleration in comparison to current engines. Drive-E Volvos will come with a bit higher prices than regular models but the investment in the present will help buyers in long-term money saving.
The future Volvo engines will only be coming in the front-wheel-drive models. The all-wheel-drive S60s will still have the older engines which could make the all-wheel-drive models cheaper than the front-drivers.
After Volvo finishes its four-cylinder engine integration on all their models, which is planned to happen by 2015, they are planning to introduce new three-cylinder engines with even better carbon spew and and miles-per-gallon rate.
Some skeptics believe that these hybrid engines can't measure with regular V8s, but people who have already driven the models with new engines recommend it greatly. It seems like Volvo has outdone itself once again. Now you can only wait patiently for January and try out these new models yourself. The future is here and Volvo is here to make your journey more comfortable and safe.
