Eyes are the most delicate sense organs. Taking regular care of the eyes should be a vital concern of every person. The atmosphere of our planet earth is getting polluted with each passing day. Rapid industrialisation is causing air pollution which leads to the release of harmful dust particles and allergy causing radicals in the air. These elements cause eye disorders. The most commonly observed eye disorders include burning sensation in the eyes, redness, too much tears, irritation, dryness and itching sensation etc. One can approach a medical store and cure eye by using eye drops if the situation is not so critical. However in few cases where the patient is unable to bear the pain, one must consult a good eye doctor. Many a times, out of ignorance people use the same multipurpose eye drops for every eye problem. This can cause great harm to the eyes as different eye drops are used for curing different eye problems.

If the origin of eye problems are allergies the best eye drops recommended by expert physicians is antihistamine solutions. The allergy causing agents or allergens are acted upon by the production of a ...
... hormone called histamine which causes dilated blood vessels which are responsible for the redness of the eyes. Antihistamine eye drops nullify the effects of this hormone and return the state of the dilated blood vessels to normal.
Dryness in the eyes is also a very common problem faced by people. The symptoms of dryness are scratchiness, itching and grittiness in the eyes. In order to overcome this problem, lubricating eye drops are used. These eye drops serve as synthetic tears and keep the eyes lubricated for a long time. These eye drops are prescribed to be used within one month of opening the bottle. Generally those patients who undergo eye surgery of any type need lubricating eye drops because of the dryness after the surgeries and also the fact that general eye drops may be too severe due to the increased sensitivity after surgery.

At times it is noticed that few patients are allergic to the chemicals used in the eye drops for preservation. In such cases one must use those solutions which are free of preservatives. One time use tubes which have to be discarded after a single application are also being used to keep the solution fresh and long lasting. Many viruses and bacteria can also result in eye disorders. The most common among these is the pink eye or conjunctivitis. The patient’s eyes which get infected by virus become reddish pink and pain severely. The area around the eyelids gets crusted as well. In case of bacterial infections, the most popular drops are antibacterial ones which are to be used only under medical supervision and the dosage should be strictly followed.

There is an availability of many other types of eye drops like cell stabilising and decongestants, anti pollution and refreshing etc. The use of decongestant eye drops should not exceed three days as they are of addictive nature. Severe eye diseases like cataract and glaucoma should be treated by an eye specialist only. One should never try any eye drops without consulting as it can aggravate the disorder resulting in negative consequences.
