Ways Of Preventing Back Pain
Many of us suffer from back pain on a daily basis. In fact, many of us spend many hours hunched over a computer, which has caused back pain suffering to actually rise over the past ten years. No matter what kind of pain you haveâ€a small ache that just doesn’t seem to go away or sudden stabbing pains that make moving incredibly painfulâ€there are some simple things you can do to help lessen the pain or even stop it from occurring at all.
The primary cause of many people’s back pain is lifting. Many people bend in half to lift something, which puts all of the stress on the back. Others twist while lifting, which can cause the muscles and nerves in the back to get out of alignment. Instead of bending over, bend at the knees and lift using your legs. If you need to move something heavy, push it, don’t pull it. In any case, try to find someone to help you lift heavy objects so you share the weight.
Remember to take breaks. Many jobs require people to sit at their desks for eight hours a day. This isn’t good for the back at ...
... all, especially if you have a bad chair. Be sure to get up and move around every now and then, and don’t forget to stretch. The same is true if you’re driving for a long distance or flying. Be sure you get up and move around on the plane, and don’t forget to pull over and take a break every now and then.
Few people stretch enough. Stretching helps relieve the tension in your back muscles. Tense muscles are more likely to be injured, so remember to do a few stretches during the day and especially before you exercise.
Speaking of, don’t forget to exercise! Not only does exercising help build up your back muscles and make you more flexible, it also improves your overall health. Being overweight can put additional stress on your back muscles, but frequent exercising can help you lose a little weight while making your back stronger. You don’t have to go to the gym, either. Simply walking every day will help build up your back muscles.
While you may think of foot pain when you think of wearing the wrong shoes, they can also have a serious impact on our backs. Women who wear high heels, for example, will find their entire body’s posture is different than when they wear shoes with a low heel. High heels can actually put our backs out of alignment, leading to severe back pain.
Posture, in fact, is very important. The best thing to do if you have to stand for long periods of time is to make certain your hips, shoulders, and ears are aligned. This may feel a bit unnatural at first, but once you get used to standing up straight, you’ll find that it comes naturally and makes you feel much better.
