Agarwood also known as the odd is a fragrant tree, it's a plant of South East Asia. It is very rare growing tree and also very costly. These trees as fast growing trees that grow up to 1000 meters in height. The tree is popular for producing a distinct aroma which is popular among lot many people across the world. This aromatic fragrance comes from dark embedded central wood of the tree which occurs due to attack of certain mold on the tree and to fight it off tree produces a resin which has an aroma. This type of trees are now an endangered species and efforts are taken to preserve them. Agarwood comes under the family of Aquilaria trees which grow very quickly in any type of soils but require lots of shade and water.

Agarwood has been used since ancient times for varied purposes. In earlier times it was considered as Wood of God. This aromatic and resinous plant is used in many purposes including medicinal. Agarwood oil is very fragrant oil which is used in colognes and perfumes. Along with it is used for religious purposes in Buddhism and Vietnamese cultures. Many popular perfume designers make use of this fragrance in their special perfume range. Many people make use of it in wine for adding aroma to it. It is a very precious oil. The oil is composed of a special ingredient called Valerian which relieves the stress by calming the nervous systems and also helps in the cases of insomnia. Underwood has also been used for romantic purposes in certain cultures. The distillation process is used for extracting oil from the wood.

One find agarwood oil and its range of products from a few suppliers based upon their location. It is very difficult to find pure and best quality agarwood oil and if you find one then it is very expensive. You can variety of agarwood oils in the market and it would be confusing which one to buy. Being very rare and precious it is very expensive and you may find that buying gold and diamond lesser in amount as compared to oud oil. If you are thinking to buy pure agarwood oil then look for genuine suppliers. Since it is a very costly commodity many people fool others by claiming some other oils as Oud oil.

The growing of agarwood is now encouraged in order to protect this endangered species. Farmers are not growing agarwood plants which is beneficial for them too.
