Reduction of sound pressure with respect to specified sound source and its receptor in any means is termed as soundproofing. >> Add mass:

In the case of sound conducting through wall, one of the best ways to add mass through walls is to make use of drywall. For achieving best results two layers of 5/8” drywalls can be used to reduce sound vibrations till greater extent. But still very low frequency can be heard easily at the other side. It is a good idea to have a wall that is decoupled, has some insulation and is having mass which results in heaviness of walls.

>> Damping:

Damping is the last technique for soundproofing. Damping a dry wall will result into reducing any level of sound frequency to be reduced immediately. The low frequency sound vibration that is felt after applying adding mass to the walls will be reduced. So the best option is having decoupled walls having absorption, add mass and damping techniques involved along with it.
