Sri Lanka is an island nation located on the Indian Ocean, neighbouring India and The Maldives. This country was formerly known as Ceylon, until its independence in 1948 from British rule. It has a rich history that dates back to Paleolithic times, and prior to the British, had been colonized by the Portuguese and the Dutch. Despite it being a small island, its popularity has resulted in a direct flight to Sri Lanka operating daily from most countries worldwide.

It is a culturally diverse country, with its Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Burgher, Malay and other minority inhabitants all coexisting peacefully and in harmony.
