Twitter, the second most popular social networking website in the world is growing even more popular lately. With the listing of it’s stock on the NYSE lately, it has become a big player not only in the world of internet, but also in the world of finance, and we can expect more are more people to use it’s tweet and retweet for quite some while.

Growing Number Of Tweets & Retweets

As per an article published in The Washington Post around May, 2013 around 400 million tweets are posted each day on twitter. This number has definitely grown even more today, and this trend certainly doesn’t seem to be on the decline. With more and more people either typing their original texts, or retweeting other’s tweet with the use of the retweet option on the website, the website is steadily getting even more popular.

Tweeting Celebrities

Twitter is now one of the most widely used social media platform by celebrities. Celebrities like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and even powerful politicians like Barrack Obama are increasingly using Twitter to post their views and reach out to their followers as ...
... well as the public. Anything they tweet will be retweeted by thousands of their followers, which help them to reach out to the public like no other media ever could. Perhaps this use of retweet, has completely revolutionized the way celebrities as well as the general public communicate.

But Twitter Is Losing Money…

The irony however is that this 7 year old company hasn’t been able to create quite the same effect on it’s balance sheet in the way the number of users are growing on it’s website. The company seems to be spending more amount than it earns. But technology and financial experts say that this is all set to change in the coming years. The experts point out the fact that Facebook was in a similar situation in the last few years. But in 2013 it managed to beat the expectations of it’s shareholders by turning out to be more profitable with the use of new advertising techniques. Similar phenomenon is expected to occur at Twitter, where new ways of generating revenues on the websites may be used to satisfy the increasing hunger of it’s shareholders. So perhaps the users of Twitter may need to get used to seeing more advertisements on Twitter in exchange for using it’s tweet and retweet options for free!

Twitterbots Tweeting And Retweeting Too...

With the growing number of users on Twitter, it’s no longer ‘just another website’. Almost all major websites now give easy options for it’s readers and users to post their links on facebook and twitter. Recognizing this growing use of twitter, programmers have started to create Twitterbots which is a program used to produce automated posts via Twitter so as to serve their commercial interests. These programs however also seem to serve as spam, enticing clicks on promotional links. However specific Twitter users have also been seen to be using Twitterbots to help themselves in scheduling or reminding.

If the currents trends are to be observed, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that the trend of Tweeting will continue for a long while. Whether the tweets would be created by humans, or by bots, tweets and retweets service surely aren’t going to stop!
