You have probably been invited to a friend's home and felt it necessary to bring something several times already. Most of the time, even if you were told not to bring anything, you still probably chose to bring a gift with you anyway because you believe it is never nice to arrive at someone's house empty handed. Perhaps one of the nicest gifts to bring when visiting a friend is a bottle of wine, but that is only as long as your friend actually drinks wine. If you are planning to give wine as a gift, here are some insider tips you might want to keep in mind.

Don't Feel Bad if Your Gift Doesn't Get Opened

Your friend will definitely appreciate your thoughtfulness, but don't expect your gift to be opened, especially if you were told beforehand that it's not necessary to bring anything. If your friend is hosting a party, it's actually up to him if he wants to open your gift and serve it to the guests. Don't feel bad if he holds onto it for later or even not serve it at the party at all. In fact, you should be happy because it means he values your gift and reserve it for personal consumption.

Never Settle for ...
... the First Bottle You Find

Settling for cheap wine will only get you embarrassed, especially if your friend is good at wines. If you're not familiar with wines, avoid going for the first bottle you find in the market because chances are you will end up picking a cheap bottle that won't pass as a gift. A gift should be given much thought, and one way you can show your thoughtfulness when giving wine as a gift is by doing your homework before buying. If you know someone who is an expert in wine, ask for advice as to which brand and type of wine you should go for. It would also be a good idea to take advantage of the World Wide Web when doing your research. A good range to consider would be $13 to $20. At the same, though, don't skip a bottle just because it costs cheap. Some wine may cost less, but actually taste better than most wines. Again, don't hesitate to seek expert advice to make sure you end up with the perfect bottle.

Take Care of Your Gift

Wine is perishable item, and you if you don't take care of it, you will end up giving a spoiled gift to a friend. It's ideal to buy your wine a day or two before the party, but if you want to buy a week before the date you plan to give it, make sure you store it properly when you reach your place. Room temperature is generally okay, but keeping it in ideal temperature, which is about 55 degrees, would be a better idea.

Be Creative

It's very common for people to give a bottle of wine in the same state that they were in the store. There's just no creativity in this and your gift may not even be considered a real 'gift' if this is the case.

Again, gifts should be given much thought, so to show that you really thought hard about your gift, make sure you wrap your gift to make it neat and presentable. Don't give it straight from fridge with the bottle still wet with moisture. Look for wine bottle wrapping ideas on the Web and use them as inspiration in preparing your gift.
