High temperature seals are used in many different aspects of daily life and also in the industry. They are widely used in exhaust system sealing, furnace, oven, boiler joints, high temperature doors, cryogenic systems and more. Here are a few detailed High temperature gasket material description and the range of temperature of which they can function.

Temperature range

The following is a list of High temperature gasket material.

a) Silicone: 400 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit
b) Fluorosilicate: 400 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit
c) Fluorocarbon (Viton®): 400 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit
d) EPDM: Greater than 400 degrees Fahrenheit
e) Viton® Sponge: - 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 450 degrees Fahrenheit
f) Silicone Sponge: -100 degrees Fahrenheit to 500 degrees Fahrenheit
g) Conductive Silicone: - 100 degrees Fahrenheit to 500 degrees Fahrenheit
h) Silicone Coated Fiberglass: 500 degrees Fahrenheit

Material Descriptions

Here are a list of materials from which high temperature seals are made:

Compressed Non-Asbestos Gaskets

These materials can withstand ...
... temperatures up to 850 degrees Fahrenheit. The compressed non-asbestos gaskets are made from fiberglass and aramid fibers and are combined with rubber to withstand higher temperature and pressure. The combination of organic and inorganic fibers along with fiberglass allows the gaskets made by compressed non-asbestos gaskets to operate at extreme situations. The can operate at even higher temperatures when metal is inserted inside the. These are the standard form of high temperature sealing material.

Fiberfrax Ceramic Fiber Gaskets

Fiberfrax is an asbestos free gasket made from alumina-silica combination. The material is lightweight, resilient and has great thermal characteristics. The material can withstand extremely high temperatures that can go up to 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. It has low thermal conductivity, high temperature stability and thermal resistance. It has the heat tolerance of refractory ceramics and can be easily cut into any shape. Also, with low shrinkage and good dielectric properties, it can withstand corrosion too.

Teflon Based Gaskets

Teflon is a very popular material that can have temperature tolerance up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The high compressibility of Teflon allows it to be placed between rough surfaces. A metal insert provided it with higher thermal resistance and hence they make excellent high temperature seals.

Flexible Graphite and Carbon Gaskets

These are used in situations where these is aggressive chemicals in play. These materials are simple and can withstand extreme temperatures of 5000 degrees Fahrenheit. The sheets of graphite can be laminated with this stainless steel foil for various applications. They offer high chemical and thermal resistance.

Nomex 410 Gaskets

The Nomex paper is originally manufactured by DuPont. This simple material can withstand a temperature up to 428 degrees Fahrenheit. The Nomex paper have high dielectric strength. They are used as insulators in a log of electrical appliances. They also have the mechanical toughness needed in high temperature seals.

Kapton Polyimide Film Gaskets

Kapton is a material also manufactured by DuPont. This film can operate at around 450 degrees Fahrenheit. They do not met of burn. They are very tough and can operate in demanding environments. The polyimide film is used to make high temperature gaskets.
