Technology is a marvelous thing and this is seen plainly when it comes to DC power supplies. There are times when you need to be sure of getting the right power at the right time, or of ensuring that your power supply is constant and steady with no spikes or sudden lows. This is because many electronic items are super sensitive to changes in the power supply and will switch off or burn out if the supply is not completely steady. And of course some will not work with mains power.

There are four main ways of obtaining power; the energy transmission systems that convert AC to DC, batteries, generators or alternators and solar power. Some power supply devices are hardwired to their load to ensure that the supply is constant and without change. You can see this in desk top computers and some electronics.

No matter what kind of power supply is used it is necessary to know how long the power will last before the device needs recharging, how stable the power supply from it is under different load and line conditions and what voltage and current it supplies.

Since many electronic devices require a low power supply, ...
... the AC from the power points in homes must be converted to DC with the use of a transformer. Once that is done the device can be safely powered with no worries about burning out or about ripples and pulses adversely affecting it. However, in the commercial and manufacturing world more rugged power supplies must be used. Industrial Ethernet switches are designed to work in these harsher conditions where the temperatures may be extreme. Fiber Ethernet use helps to protect the equipment in such conditions.

In industrial manufacturing it is common to find the Photo Electric Sensor in use. There are several types of this device and which one is used depends on the needs and the environment. Those with optic fibers can send light into hostile environments, while simpler models are just used to detect the presence or absence of any object though the use of a light transmitter.

Fiber optics can be used without the photo electric sensor when the environment is too hostile or if the space is too restricted for it. So it can be seen that there are many uses for this type of technology and in fact today we could not do without it and still use all the amazing electronic devices that we have at hand.
