Shenoa Cares About Their Customers
There are very few people who truly know what constitutes quality in a diamond, which is why they rely on experts like the people at Shenoa. From a distance, one diamond can look like another one; even something that isn't a diamond at all can look like one to a layperson. There is a lot involved in determining the quality of diamonds, however, and it takes education, practice and even a certain talent. Though most people outside of the jewelry industry don't know exactly what it takes to determine the quality of a diamond, many will understand the difference between the best diamonds and more inferior ones when they see them side by side. A top quality diamond has a presence that is noticeable. It will catch and hold the eye just a little longer; enhance the look of the wearer just a little more. Determining the quality of a diamond is taken seriously at Shenoa, and they have methods and experts to help ensure that it is done correctly.
Determining diamond quality at Shenoa starts with the purchasing process. Not only do they want to purchase only diamonds that will meet their standards at certain levels, but they also ...
... want to get the best deals so that they can pass them along to customers. Skilled and savvy buyers will negotiate for both quality and value, keeping in mind the range of customers that they need to satisfy, as well as these customers' budgets. Ensuring the quality of the diamonds that they offer for sale isn't just about having only the best. Diamonds come in different grades which obviously reflect different price ranges, and the people at Shenoa work to ensure that each grade of diamond falls within an acceptable range.
The History of Diamonds:
The name diamond is derived from the ancient Greek ἀδάμας (adámas), "unbreakable, untamed", from ἀ- (a-), "un-" + δαμάω (damáō), "I overpower, I tame", and is the real-world origin of myths about a superhard metal called adamant.
In 1813, Humphry Davy used a lens to concentrate the rays of the sun on a diamond in an atmosphere of oxygen, and showed that the only product of the combustion was carbon dioxide, proving that diamond is composed of carbon. Later, he showed that in an atmosphere devoid of oxygen, diamond is converted to graphite.
The most familiar usage of diamonds today is as gemstones used for adornment, a usage which dates back into antiquity. The dispersion of white light into spectral colors, is the primary gemological characteristic of gem diamonds.
In the twentieth century, experts in the field of gemology have developed methods of grading diamonds and other gemstones based on the characteristics most important to their value as a gem. Four characteristics, known informally as the four Cs, are now commonly used as the basic descriptors of diamonds: these are carat, cut, color, and clarity.
A diamond is a transparent crystal of tetrahedrally bonded carbon atoms (sp3) that crystallizes into the diamond lattice which is a variation of the face centered cubic structure. Diamonds have been adapted for many uses because of the material's exceptional physical characteristics. Most notable are its extreme hardness, its high dispersion index, and extremely high thermal conductivity (900 - 2320 W/m K). Above 1700 °C (1973 K / 3583 °F) in vacuum or oxygen-free atmosphere, diamond converts to graphite; in air, transformation starts at ~800 °C. Naturally occurring diamonds have a density ranging from 3.15 to 3.53 g/cm³, with very pure diamond typically extremely close to 3.52 g/cm³.
