Europe travel has been romanticised and mythologized over the ages through music, books, films and also by people who have travelled through the great continent, and there can be no European country more celebrated in popular culture than France. At one point, France saw a total of 79.5 million tourists visit it in a span of just one year, which is a remarkable indicator as to the rest of the world’s obsession with this country. With its rich history, breathtaking architecture, lip smacking cuisine and diverse artistic society, France tours should be on every travellers bucket list, whether you are a vocational traveller or simply going off on a casual vacation. In either case, here are a few things you can’t possibly miss while in France.

• The Eiffel Tower
How could any itinerary of things to do in France not include a visit to the Eiffel Tower? The tower is the second tallest architectural structure in France, coming in second after the Millau Viaduct. A global landmark, the Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s great engineering and aesthetic achievements and serves as a source of great pride to Frenchmen. ...
... Consequently, the infrastructure supporting tourist visits to the tower is highly developed, and visiting the tower is a rather convenient experience. There are even restaurants to satisfy your hunger after all that climbing, should you choose not to take the elevators.

• The French Riviera
The French Riviera sees almost 10 million visitors a year, and is one of France’s most popular tourist areas. Officially known as the Cote d’Azur, which translates as ‘The Azure Coast’, the French Riviera is considered to be one of the world’s first resort locations, initially frequented during the summers by such well-heeled families as the Rothschilds, painters such as Picasso, aristocrats such as Queen Victoria and writers like Aldous Huxley. Today the French Riviera is open not just to those with deep pockets, but tourists of all sorts who come here to eat, drink, soak up the sun and make merry.

• Toulouse
Toulouse is a city rich with history, being home to two UNESCO Word Heritage Sites, namely the Saint-Sernin Basilica and the Canal du Midi, and other important locations such as the burial place of the Saint Thomas Aquinas, contained within the ancient Gothic monastery of Ensemble conventuel des Jacobins, as well as the Pont Neuf, or ‘New Bridge’ which dates back to the 16th Century.

• The Louvre
Along with the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum is one of Paris’ most popular tourist destinations, attracting almost 8 million visitors every year. Located in the Louvre Palace, this Museum provides tourists with an impactful insight into the political and social history of France, and is considered to be one of the most extensive informative experiences that a museum can provide.

So there you have it. Still, this list barely scratches the surface of all that there is to see and do on France tours, and we recommend doing some research and constructing an itinerary of your own!
