In today’s world, self-expression is not only desired, it is also highly sought after. A hyper technology-based culture, we strive to not only broadcast our beliefs, but also to demonstrate and show them. Often, these demonstrations come as a result of our fashion choices. Among all groups of people, this is true; however, it is truest for Christians. As a result of faith, we are called and commanded to be a shining city on a hill. From a young age, we are told to “don’t let Satan blow it out” and to let our light shine. The lyrics of the infamous children’s song are a representation of the calling we Christians receive in the Bible through Jesus. We are also given a model by which to live this heretical life by apostles such as Paul, John the Baptist and many others. These great men (and women, shown in stories of Rehab, Ruth, and Esther) have never been considered anything less than passionate about their faith.
Christian’s faith is not meek. It is not mild. A faith where we are called to tell people about Jesus and His life and love for others is not one that can be described as lukewarm. In fact, Jesus ...
... says he would spit us out of his mouth if we were to be lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. So, we let our light shine and we do so proudly and strongly. How, then, can we do this? Of course, our actions are the number one predicators of this demonstration. You have to walk the walk in order to talk the talk. However, even athletes are allowed the demonstration that comes from donning a t shirt proclaiming their favorite sport’s team. Why can Christians not do the same thing?
Christian t shirts of today are either nonexistent or meek and mild. As we have already said, these Christian t shirts shouldn’t be this way. T shirts and fashion in general are ways in which we can show the world directly in what we believe. We would never label athletic apparel lame. Why, then, are we willing to accept that for Christian t shirts? If we accept apparel that lacks passion, we are not fully or accurately representing ourselves.
In an age of Twitter bios, Instagram snapshots, and Facebook profiles, why would we waste our time with shirts that are unappealing and boring? Christians are called to be passionate! Anything less than passion would be absurd. Understanding this, then, Christian t shirts should be created in this same light. No longer should we accept Christian t shirts that are less than passionate. No longer should we accept t shirts that are less than artfully designed with the same fire and gusto that is behind the very crux of our relationship our relationship with Jesus Christ.
