International Moving – Things To Do

There can be a lot of mixed emotions regarding a move, particularly when it is to another country. While relocating can offer opportunities to meet new people, experience new cultures, languages and see other parts of the world, it can be complicated, overwhelming and feelings of uncertainty can creep up when you least expect it. Relocating within a few blocks is stressful, so a global move requires planning and organization well in advance such as deciding on what movers to use. Considering the use of an international moving company can unleash some of your burdens, as they have the experience in clearing up any obstacles with customs and navigating unfamiliar cities.
The goal for moving to another country is to prepare for what is ahead. To start with, you might use a folder or notebook to keep all documents related to your move such as important phone numbers such as those of friends, new schools, employers and recheck the details.
Contact the country’s embassy or consulate to find out what documents you are required to have (keep in mind that you may have to visit the embassy in person, be interviewed and ...
... fingerprinted). The embassy may require seeing your documents such as birth certificates and a marriage license. Depending on the country, it can take several months to receive the required documents to move to another country, so there is no such thing as starting too early to begin this process. All countries require a visa for foreigners living or working and in order to obtain a visa, one must first have a passport. Dependent upon the country, you and all your family members may need up to date passports, which can consist of many different types such as a work, student and visitor visa. Some visas require a letter of recommendation in order to support you is the application. Addressed to the consulate/embassy, this can be written by a friend or family member and should indicate something about your character, any business references and that you are financially responsible.
Additional documents possibly required could be a residence permit, work permit or international driving permit (if you will be driving in your new country) and a Certificate of Vaccination Health Card to prove you have been vaccinated against certain diseases. Photocopies should be made of these documents, which show the front and the back of your ID.
Not only do you need required documents to move yourself, but moving your belongings can require following certain legal procedures and needed documents so you will need a company to assist you with expertise. Unless a local moving company actually has real experience in international moving, then it is best to stick with an international moving company. After setting up an appointment, usually a seasoned international moving company representative will come over to your home and advise of what to expect regarding the move. They can also provide a price estimate based on the move distance, size and type of items being moved (such as a vehicle).
Moving to a different country can be a terribly stressful transition and it takes a lot to start this type of new chapter in your life, so prepare ahead of time and to avoid potential problems, consider the use of an international moving company.
