Creative Wrinkle Creams - Remedies Or Waste Of Time?
For anyone that pays a lot of attention to the anti aging, anti wrinkle industry, there is always some new inventive method to remove wrinkles. They can range in creativity from household items to bird poop and snail slime. While the reasons and support of these random remedies is founded, how are the results? After all, that is what we are all looking for, results. So we decided to take a closer look at these creative wrinkle remedies to decide if they are a waste of time, or if they are the effective treatments we have been looking for.
The inspiration for this research came from a discussion I was having with some friends. We were discussing the Chinese method of rubbing bird poop into the skin of your face in a facial. We had heard that it is great for your skin, but never really met anyone who had gone to the spas in New York or Asia to try. The notion that in order to rub bird poop into our faces; without clear confirmation that it will work, was not anything that any of us felt comfortable with. It's not that we are skeptics of skin care remedies, as we know that many of our leading wrinkle cures were ...
... discovered in nature. But this is poop. Poop from a bird, something I have been dodging landing on me for as long as I can remember. Something that inevitably falls on my car the second I have it washed, something that gets me very mad. I was not just gonna rub it on my face willingly, unless I know it works.
Well, that conversation led to looking into these types of remedies and seeking out the truth about their effectiveness. We have all tried the home remedies, rubbing pineapple juice on our face, massaging sour cream in our skin, and we know that while they are not effective the basis for those remedies is documented. And besides, how gross is pineapple juice? It's certainly not poop. So we ruled out any household remedies as effective, not because they won't work but because it might take years of steady usage to even see the beginnings of results. Considering the available alternatives, that seemed like a waste of time. We instead turned our focus on to the latest, and much more creative alternative, the bird poop and snail slime.
The slime of a snail, or to be more specific, the slime left behind by a snail as it slithers across the ground was said to be an effective cure for wrinkles. We looked into it further to discover that that slime actually contains copper peptides and other peptides. Those peptides are among to most effective wrinkle treatments that scientists are aware of. And while we were aware of how effective they are in the best wrinkle creams, we did not know that they came from the slime of a snail. While we did not feel any compulsion to go find a snail and rub that slime into our skin, we are ruling this remedy as effective, as peptides are used in the best wrinkle creams and none of us would ever purchase a wrinkle cream that does not contain some sort of peptide, at least at this stage in the game.
Finally it came time to take a look at bird poop. While all of this had begun on a joking basis, as we were looking into it further, we became intrigued about it. There are many women who swear by this treatment. But it is not just for the removal of wrinkles, it is for smooth, shiny skin as well. We spoke with many specialists in spas that employ the bird poop treatment, and found that they too had a sense of humor about it. But at the end of the day they recommended the treatment, not as a valid treatment for wrinkles, but as a step in a facial for those looking for porcelain skin. We were still a bit surprised that people are willing to do this, but we were provided enough results to convince us that as a facial ingredient it is effective, just not effective enough to be considered a realistic cure for wrinkles.
Overall, we had quite a bit of fun with this particular bit of research and it caused more laughs than any we have done in years. But unfortunately the result was that these creative wrinkle remedies are not nearly as effective as the best wrinkle creams and with the exception of snail slime did not even really remove them in a reasonable time frame. And we could not rationalize keeping enough snails to use the slime vs. purchasing the ingredients in a wrinkle cream. So after all was said and done, we determined that while creative, these remedies resulted in a waste of time.
