The first Head of the Charles Regatta took place in 1965, and was modeled after those that took place in England. At the end of race, the winning team is dubbed the Head of the Charles. In addition to the organizers of the Event, the Regatta is supported by area boat clubs and my more than 1,400 volunteers.

Dozens of races, including in categories such as college championship, youth single, youth double, lightweight single and sculling, will take place during the 2-day Event in Boston ...
... with some of the best rowing teams in the world competing against each other. Rowing the 3-mile course upstream, the teams are cheered on by more than 300,000 spectators who come to watch the exciting competitions.
