In order to execute a good golf swing you need to be golf fit. The most strenuous aspect of a golf game is the golf swing. So to improve your swing you will need to improve you golf fitness. This doesn't mean hours of exercise at the gym prior to hitting the links. But it does require some basic golf exercises.

A proper golf swing is universal and it consists of three separate movements. The basic movements of a golf swing are, the back swing, the down swing and finally the impact and follow-through. Each movement should be worked on separately in an effort to get the right positions and movements. This is how golfers improve their golf swing and ultimately their golf game. Also, each movement uses different muscles and requires different golf exercises.

You might think that it is necessary to have really strong arms to have a great golf swing. This is not necessarily true. The golf swing starts at the legs and the hips and not the arms. Many golfers place most of their attention and emphasis on the arm strength. It is not necessary to have arms, the size of a body builder to be a good golfer.

However, ...
... upper body strength, a strong back and strong legs are all needed for a good golf swing. These muscles can be developed, by working out with dumbbells and doing simple stretches. Without exercise, the proper golf swing movements only work to strain unprepared, weak and therefore tense muscles. You will be surprised how a few minutes a day can really strengthen your body. Proper exercising that is golf-specific will have a positive impact on your golf game.

Golf has always been viewed as a leisure sport. The truth of the matter is that the modern golf player needs a golf fitness program. Golf exercises and golf workouts can be done at home and can take just a few minutes a day. Golf is great game in the respect that all ages, can enjoy a round of golf.
