Over the last few years there has been a great change in the market shares of android, iOS, Blackberry and windows. Previously most of the shares are being occupied by the iOS and blackberry but ever since the android came into force the shares of iOS, blackberry decreases down rapidly.

Today android has overtaken almost all the OS available by having a market share of 79.3% and increasing, while the iOS is left with only 13.2% shares, windows by 3.7% and blackberry by 2.9%and the rest 0.8% by Linux and 0.2% by Symbian.

Android has marked its success and now became one of the most popular mobile platforms for smartphone users. Android has an added advantage of play store, which has more than 1 million applications available for users. Android being an open source operating system is also an added advantage at the same time it also supports third party application. There are numerous benefits with the android OS that has made android occupying 79.3% of the shares.

... its easy to use interface and the most important thing is its way more secure, being an closed source operating system iOS is said to be one of the most secured OS for smartphone and like android it also has apple store which has huge collection of applications available. iOS is considered as one of the major competitor of Android platform and still it is giving competition despite of being costly.

Blackberry previously was one of the most demanding OS as it delivers exclusive features it is considered to be the best OS after iOS but ever since android came into force the shares of blackberry also starts decreasing ,Windows phones are way behind only occupying 2.3% shares a year back but now after the release of BB10 it somehow stabilizes on 2.9% and the shares of windows phones increased to 4.3%.

Windows phones were also one of the successful OS but it was considered as a secondary option when compared with android. Windows phone was launched in collaboration with Nokia. They have gained popularity but every one considered it as a secondary option because many users have a problem in understanding how to navigate across the whole environment. Still windows phone are in the development mode and it needs improvement still windows managed to gain 3.7% shares by beating blackberry, whicha year back was 4.3%.

For now android is leading all the OS available as is has numerous features available, which is updating frequently and one of the biggest pros with android is open source OS which allows user to do extreme customization which is not possible in iOS and others as they are closed source OS , android have support from various android application development communities that add an advantage to android platform.
