A bunion is a very common forefoot problem. It is a bump on the inside of the foot around the big toe joint. This bump is nothing but a bone actually which gets enlarged. Bunions can be of many types depending upon their shape and size and the reasons with which they occur.

There may be many causes of bunions.The doctors may disagree with the causes the other doctors say. This is a common problem seen especially in women. It can be caused by wrong usage of foot functions, or even arthritis. However the most common reason which causes bunions is wearing a wrong foot wear. It can also occur genetically. Some other reasons which cause bunions include having a flat feet, excessive stretching of ligaments, abnormal bone structure, or neurological conditions.

The best cure to this disease is to wear proper fitting shoes. Shoes which have a wide toe area are advisable for people who suffer from such problems. Care should be taken that the material of the shoe should be light weight and shock absorbing.

There is a huge range of forefoot products available which proves helpful in curing the bunions. These products include bunion shields, bunion bandages etc. usage of these products limit the bunion from progressing, relieve pain and provide a healthy environment for the foot.

Usage of a certain type of foot wear known as gelled toe spacers, bunion toe spacers and bunion cushions also prove beneficial in curing bunions.

If the problem and the pain last long it is advisable to seek proper medical advice. Surgical procedures can also be used in treating the bunions.With the help of a surgery, the bunion can be removed. It can also be used for proper alignment of the forefoot. There are different surgeries which can be used by the surgeons depending upon the type of bunion and the effects. The age, health and lifestyle of the person also play a key role in determining the right type of surgery.
