When clients come to us with poorly written divorce arrangements, and/or decrees which other new lawyers have managed it distresses us. Often the errors are very costly and cannot be set as shown in the series of articles I wrote for The Family Law News, a peer-review publication of the Virginia State Bar, Section of Family Law, entitled 'Costly Errors in Multi-State Military Divorce; Or a Military Wife's Tale of Woe,' which are published in the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 problems of the publication.

So, how do you begin finding a good phoenix divorce lawyer? Here are several suggestions:

Tip 1-Ask a Lawyer ...

Ask him/her for a referral to an excellent divorce lawyer, once you learn a lawyer. For example, I've been managing divorce and separation for 30 years and have an excellent reputation among the local legal community.

Tip 2-Yellow Pages/Internet

Without a fantastic source of information, the Yellow Pages and internet can be quite a starting source of attorney names. Lawyers who don't mention separation, divorce, military divorce, and associated areas like custody and support or property division, aren't seeking situations in those areas and certainly don't devote a significant portion of the practice to those areas. Be leery of adverts including a laundry list of everything under the sun. Remember the old saying, 'a jack of all trades and master of none'? Remember maybe not everybody advertises in the Yellow Pages or haw a website or internet presence.. For example, there are more telephone results than there are attorney ads in the Yellow Pages.

Solicitors must ask to access it the number and must agree to a fixed fee for an initial discussion. A lawyer can be shown under any group she or he wants. The names are on a rotating record and fond of customers who contact the company. Again, not all attorneys are listed. We're maybe not shown with all the referral service. In fact, interview many lawyers. Ask each attorney who else handles separation and divorce in your community. The odds are likely good on a regular basis that the lawyer is doing these cases, should they won't give names to you, leave work, when you see names turning up on different lists of tips.
