Rajasthan Holidays Filled With Heritage And Culture
Rajasthan is most popularly known for its well preserved heritage. Even today, ancient forts, royal palaces and religious sites exist as they did centuries ago, dotting the landscape like reminders of the past. These architectural marvels are more than just visually pleasing tourist attractions. They are living reminders of India’s rich culture, which thrives even while the country moves towards progress and globalization.
Jaipur is seen by many as the seat of this royal heritage. Interestingly, Jaipur is also Rajasthan’s most developed city, with a thriving urban populous.
Popular Tourist Destinations in Jaipur
Indian and foreign tourists flock to Rajasthan’s many royal heritage sites to witness these cultural symbols. There are a variety of tour packages to choose from. But almost all these packages would be incomplete without a visit to Jaipur, the ‘Pink City’ which is home to three of the most well preserved forts in Rajasthan; the Amber fort, the Jaigarh Fort and the Nahargarh fort. Interestingly these three forts are historically linked. All were built in the early 18th century by the ruling ...
... maharajas, and played a key role in defence of the erstwhile kingdoms. They all were royal residences, with spectacular aerial views of the surrounding valleys.
When on royal Rajasthan holidays it is also imperative for tourists to visit the Hawa Mahal or ‘Palace of Winds’ and the Jal Mahal or ‘Water Palace’, both of which are also in Jaipur. The Hawa Mahal has a spectacular honeycomb like façade; an iconic image of Rajasthan which finds its way onto many picture postcards. The Jal Mahal is equally breath-taking; an imposing five-storey palace built right in the middle of the expansive Mansagar Lake. The City Palace of Jaipur is a major landmark, which epitomizes the opulence and extravagance associated with the Moghul era.
Another particularly interesting monument is the Jantar Mantar, a unique ancient space observatory built around the same time as the trio of forts. While the rest of Jaipur’s attractions are elaborately built palaces and forts, this odd structure is a collection of futuristic geometric buildings. Quite evidently, Maharaja Jai Singh II who built this observatory was ahead of his time. The observatory is no longer functional, but ancient records, panoramic photographs, time lapse sequences and researcher’s recordings have been maintained.
It’s quite remarkable that all of these structures, each unique and special in its own way, can all be found in such close proximity to each other.
