Munnar is one of South India’s finest hill station, located in the Idukki district of Kerala. It is quite close to the Tamil Nadu border and hence can be accessed from both these states. Munnar is situated in the southern part of the Western Ghats, at the confluence for three rivers, Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly. The rivers enrich the area, bringing in rich fertile hydrated soil, which fuels the green expanses of Munnar. Munnar packages are ideal for nature lovers, who really appreciate the abundant plant and animal life in the region. There is nothing more relaxing and rejuvenating that be surrounded by greenery as far as the eye can see.

All Munnar packages will include a visit to the Eravikulam National Park, one of India’s finest nature reserves. The patch of land is protected by strict rules, because it is home to several endangered species of animals, most importantly the Nilgiri Tahr. For those who enjoy environmentally responsible travel, India has many opportunities. The Eravikulam National Park in one of the best eco-destinations. With special permission from the Forest Department one can gain ...
... entry to the park and even trek to the Anamydi peak, which is the highest peak in south India. While you trek up this peak you get a view of the expansive tea-estates which blanket Munnar.

Another place Munnar packages must include is Mattupetty, which is known for its beautiful damn and lake. You can take a boat ride onto the lake to observe the surrounding hills. The landscape is most often dotted with cows, which belong to a dairy farm run by the Indi-Swiss Livestock Project. These lumbering beasts add to the laid back appeal of Mattupetty. The Shola forests located near the lake are ideal for nature trails. You can also visit another damn at Anayirangal. This damn is surrounded by tea estates and makes for an extremely pretty picture.

While at Munnar you must make it a point to visit the Pallivasal and Chinnakanal falls. The Chinnakanal waterfall, also known at the Power House Waterfall cascades down a 2000m rock formation! For scenic views of the Western Ghat you can also visit Echo Point, which is one of Munnar’s most popular spots for day picnics. Top Station, located about 32kms from Munnar, sits at a height of 1700m above sea level. From this elevated point you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tamil Nadu.

Munnar definitely makes it to the list of India’s most scenic travel destinations. If this southern hill station leaves you with a thirst for more travel India has many more equally green options!
