India is a vast diverse country; with varied travel opportunities. There is something for every kind of tourist. Foreigners who come to India travel to explore local culture, sample cuisine, understand history and some even embark on spiritual journeys. Most leave satisfied and with a thirst for more. It could take months, if not years to explore just the north. North India packages are so hard to choose from because each of them has something special to offer. But if you are a first time visitor here’s a list of five North India travel destination you just cannot afford to miss out on! Visiting these will give you a small taste of culture, history, spirituality and society in general.

Indians and foreigners alike will vouch for the fact that the Taj Mahal is one of India’s finest monuments. Visit this wonder of the world for a day and get a glimpse into Mughal history and architecture. The monument is beautiful crafted using the world’s finest marble, which looks ethereal under the light of the moon. Beautifully manicured gardens and gorgeous waters of the Yamuna add to its appeal. No North India packages would ...
... be complete without a visit to the Taj Mahal.

Varanasi is one of the most spiritually charged places in the world. The seat of Hindu religious belief and home to a number of pilgrimage sites, this colourful vibrant city is a true reflection of Indian spirituality. Lord Shiva, the God of destruction is said to reside here. Lakhs of Indians visit this city each year, to wash away their sins in the cleansing waters of the Ganga.

Another iconic monument one must visit is the Golden Temple in Amritsar. This temple, which is actually coated in pure gold was built by Guru Ram Das in the sixteenth century. When at the Golden Temple be sure to stay for a langar or community meal, which is graciously served by temple authorities free of charge. You can even volunteer to help out during meals and serve the throngs of people who visit.

If you were to pick two big cities that are a must-visit when in India, travel to Jaipur and Delhi. Jaipur or the ‘pink city’ is the capital of Rajasthan. This city is frequented by tourists because it is home to some of the country’s best preserved forts and palaces. The Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal and the City Palace are three iconic monuments which are included in all North India travel packages.

Delhi, of course, presents a completely different side of India. This modern city is at the forefront of globalization, has a thriving urban populous and urban infrastructure. It has a bustling highlife and culinary scene. One can spend hours walking around Khan Market or Hauz Khas buying clothing, accessories and souvenirs.

Just travelling to these five destinations will take about a fortnight! But you will surely leave with a rich cultural experience and fond memories.
