Sony has yet again launched the latest in its Xperia series, the Xperia Z Ultra. It is the latest addition to its series that is said to be one of its kind. This Smartphone is said to be one of the best in Android OS with brilliant display. Let us find out how it stands it to the tall claims that it has made about this Smartphone.

The Design and Display

The design of the Z Ultra seems to be same as its Bravia TV with Triluminous display. This means that this new version is a lot better in terms of design and display as compared to Xperia Z. The colors are rich and vibrant. However, you might often see the oversaturated hues but still the display is good. The color tones of greens and reds are very prominent with wider range of colors.

When you look at the overall design of Z Ultra, you will be thrilled by the incredible thin form of the phone. The thickness of 6.5 mm will have you gasping at its thin frame. Although it is too early to dish out any details about this phone but measuring at 6.44-inches the device is massive. Perhaps this is the reason why it is not easy to comfortably hold it in the palm of ...
... your hand. This phone is waterproof, which means that even if you drop it in 1m depth of water for 30 minutes it will still be fine. This is certified on IP55 and IP58 criteria. The only thing missing seems flash from the design of the phone.

Software Specifications

The processor of the phone is fast due to its Snapdragon 800 SoC. This is arguably the most powerful chipset that is one of its kind to feature Qualcomm. As far as the UI is concerned, there are some additions to it, while Sony has retained most of its apps and toggle features there are some changes in notifications. The icons in the notifications bar and pop out menu that appear in app menu are easy to reach. All you need to do it swipe right to access it. Apart from this, the OS that this phone is shipped with is Android 4.2.2 version that might also be ready to upgrade to the latest 4.3 version.

Camera Quality

The camera provided in this phone is a decent 8MP camera sans flash. However, you will be able to capture decent still shots in natural light but without any detailing. The outdoor shots are clear and crisp. The camera is capable of 1080p quality with 30fps. The only disappointment that seems to come your way is the lack of LED flash. This means that you will not be able to use camera in low light or dim light conditions, forget about using it at nighttime. Another thing that you might notice is the noise that gives you low performance pictures. Nonetheless, for daytime and outdoors it is perfect in capturing decent pictures, enough that you can post on your social media network. You just need to remember not to zoom in as it might lead to lack of details.

The Verdict

The price offered by Sony for its Xperia Z Ultra might leave you surprised with $772.046. This does seems to be one hell of expensive phone in the Android market. However, there are some interesting aspects about this device. The most impressive aspects that will have you vying for this phone include the thin design and brilliant display. Any given day an average Smartphone user would love to go for this phone for these two very reasons. Other reasons like lack of LED flash might be a major turn off for those who are expecting more out of this phone.
