Technical Document And Translation Services
The practise of Technical Translation is one of considerable importance as it concerns the translation of specialised Technical Documents produced by a number of technical writers (the most common form of which are owners' manuals and user guides) which detail highly technological subject matters as well as the application of technical and more general scientific information. Such Technical Document Services (also referred to as Technical Translation Services) require the technical translators to have a very high level of understanding of the topic concerned for them to be able to master the relevant terminology whilst still adhering to traditional writing conventions. However, such technical authoring services do not merely involve the practice of producing a text made up of highly specialised and technical language which is accessible for a far wider audience as such texts can also involve the linguistic features of translating these technological texts from one language to another.
The majority of Conversion Services are carried out by translators who work within a specialized field such as the 'translation' into everyday ...
... language of legal or medical technical documents, thereby demonstrating the importance of having an interdisciplinary background. It is also advisable for any potential technical translator to become familiar with the industry of professional translation by undertaking specific training to compliment the translator's existing knowledge base of technological skills.
It is also often the case that a Technical Translator can double as a Technical Writer. This is clearly shown by the fact that research has demonstrated that technical translators do, in fact, create new meanings for words or phrases rather than simply 'repackaging' the information in a more understandable way for a wider reading audience. This in turn emphasises the very important role played by Technical Translators in creating meanings for relevant words and phrases, regardless of whether they are practising technical translation in merely one language or in several.
Translators often choose to use either computer-assisted translation (CAT) or machine translation (MT) in performing their Technical Documents Service. Although some translators choose to complete the entirety of their translation activities without the use of MT or CAT software, this is only really done for the translation of documents which require a certain degree of creativity.
However, documents and content which concern matters relating to mechanics and engineering and which also contain frequently used and translated concepts and phrases are most frequently translated using the CAT and MT software.
