The wood flooring is always favored by a good number of owners amongst the other flooring options either for their structural enhancement or and also for artistic sense. Its unique feature of sturdiness, reparability and eco-friendliness makes it an apparent choice of the flooring. A simple process of regular vacuuming, sweeping or mopping is essential for impeccable maintenance of the wood floors.

A floor looks complete when it has smooth finish with any of the imperfections being covered and the uniqueness of the wood is made visible. The overall outlook of the floor and the interiors of the home can be enhanced only when the strict regimen of finishing, refinishing and sanding is done accurately to the wooden floors.

The need for Sanding

Wood Floor sanding is one of the essential tasks performed to smooth or polish the wooden floor by a sander that has abrasive material to remove any small amount of materials from the surface and gives it a smooth finish. This is done not only on newly built houses, but also can eliminate any blemish like scratches, dents and even stains which has occurred over the years. ...

Sanding Machines

The equipments that are used for sanding play a major role in the process and the machines can be either of drum or disk type. The drum sander works with the sandpaper being mounted on a cylindrical drum rotating on an axis parallel to the floor while the sandpaper in a disk sander is mounted on a disk that rotates in a circle on the floor. The disadvantage of using a drum sander is its inability to work on the edges or corners on the baseboard. To combat this hindrance, electric edgers are used. Electric edger is small disk sanders that are used to work on the corners, stains and stairs.

Similar to the other technologies, the machines are updated regularly to match up with the growing demands. At present, there are also dust free sanding machines that use an advanced filtration system which filters the dust to a huge machine bag and avoid piling over the work area thereby enhancing the performance of the machine.

Sanding hardwood floor can be a challenge owing to its rustic nature and hence it is in need of some special equipment. The use of orbital sander or a tri –like sander is highly recommended for proper wooden floor finishing yet if the floor is made of planks or boards, the disk sander is the best one to be used.

Prevention of Sanding Marks

The only disadvantage of using a floor sander could be the marks that the bulky machine leaves on the floor. But, the flooring sanding marks can easily be surmounted by professional people who are well versed with the type of flooring and the equipment that is required to do the job perfectly.

In Summary, the wood floor sanding, done with the appropriate machines is considered the job to be half done. Hence, choosing the machines according to the requirement is quite essential.
