Writing articles is an exceptional way to market and promote a product or website - but only if it is done properly. The power of formatting, whilst being a particularly arduous topic, is often woefully underestimated by novice writers.
Speak to any article writer, and they will all agree that composing a text on a particular subject involves much more than just jotting a few words down on the page. Articles destined for the internet, and especially those for use in article marketing, need to adhere to a certain form and structure to ensure that they are effective.
To do this, there are a number of considerations an author must make. Content, of course, is critical. After all, if you didn't have any content, you wouldn't have an article. But equally as important is the way that the article looks, feels and flows.

The great thing about writing articles is that they can be of almost any length. From a snappy 200 words, to a comprehensive and in depth 20,000 word analysis, the length of the article is very much dependent on the quantity of information you want to provide your reader with. The important thing about length, however, is the way in which it is dealt with.
If you have ever come across an article with no paragraph structure, you will understand what we mean here. Just imagine if everything you had read in this article so far was bunched together, with absolutely no line spaces, headings, or breaks. Do you think you would have made it this far?
9 readers out of 10 wouldn't, and that is no coincidence. Using reader friendly formatting is a vital key to ensure that people continue reading. It is simply a function of human psychology that an article with breaks and paragraphs will attract more full views than one which is crammed together.
Interestingly, articles with two full spaces between paragraphs are even more popular than those with one. This might seem like a humorous, petty formatting difference. But the truth is that when it comes to article marketing, small things can have a massive effect on the success of a campaign.
- Paragraph Structure.
Take a look at the paragraphs in this article. You will see that in general, each one is 3 to 4 sentences in length. Even if the same idea is spread across multiple paragraphs, the reader will find it much easier to manage a few sentences at a time, rather than a huge chunk of text with the odd break.
Why is this important, and why does it seem to be more reader friendly? It's no more complicated than understanding that human beings like to have "breaks" (ie. free time). Subconsciously, when a reader reaches the end of a paragraph, they get a short time to pause, refresh, and start on the next slice of text.
By limiting the number of words or sentences per paragraph, you are vastly increasing the chances that the reader will continue on until the very end of the text. Just take yourself for example. Here we are, 10 paragraphs later, and you are still following along!
Hopefully, by implementing these 2 simple structural edits in to your next piece of writing, you will notice the difference in effectiveness and results that such small effects can achieve.
